Website Launch

Well I gotta tell you, building a website is a labor of love especially if you are like me and spend hours pondering if you should shift that icon 1 pixel to the left or to the right, but hey we're finally live, welcome to Hayler.com.

Like I said building a website from scratch can be a "tearing your hair out" exercise, just when you thought it was all coming together you fire up Internet explorer 6 and well, what do you know, your web page looks like a rough sketch you tried to do while blindfolded in the middle of an earthquake. It's a mess and you seriously contemplate putting up a splash page urging visitors not to venture any further without updating their browser to something more compatible. Well i'm done worrying about it, it's time to just get it out there and I will just deal with the bugs as and when I can.

So just what is Hayler.com all about you might ask? Funny that because I haven't entirely decided myself but I am certain that in time this will become more evident. For now, it's just the virtual home for news, photos and musings from the Hayler family and a place for me to experiment. At first glance you will probably notice the entire theme of the site is layered upon on a dark background and many elements of the site are quite dark themselves. This was a conscious decision and personally I like it. As I did most of the design over a few late nights it made staring at a monitor in the dark a little more comfortable on the eyes but I am sure if you try viewing this during the day or if you monitor ain't so bright then you probably won't appreciate it quite as much. For those people I say, "please be patient", I do have a theme switcher in the making which will give you the option of changing the colours and contrasts in the future.

Speaking of the future, I decided to just start out with a basic blog and apply additional features and functionality bit by bit. I have a ton of ideas which if I was tempted to implement all at once the site would simply not get built. So from time to time you might notice a few new things here and there.

You can always catch up with what's new by clicking on the "previously" tab on the home page. Occasionally I may have the urge to write something, could be a load of bullocks or if you're lucky maybe remotely interesting who knows, you will just have to keep coming back to satisfy your curiosity. The latest ramblings will be posted on the home page but you can always click on "archives" to view the most recent articles or entries and even sort by category. If you come across anything that sparks some stimulation, post a comment and let me know your opinion or viewpoint.

For now I hope you just enjoy the site and thanks for visiting.
